Sean Fitzgerald

Business Consultant

Sean Fitzgerald is an economic development professional and business journalist whose background includes 20 years as the founder and owner of a northeast Wisconsin business media and publishing company.

Fitzgerald currently works as an entrepreneurship consultant for Wisconsin Small Business Development Center, where he’s assisted more than 300 small businesses in the Fox Valley to launch, obtain financing, add employees, and improve their operational efficiency. Prior to this role, he worked in economic development posts for the cities of Oshkosh and Wausau, where he assisted local business owners and real estate developers navigate various regulatory and permitting processes within city hall.

During his 24-year career as a business journalist, Fitzgerald launched and served as publisher and president of New North B2B magazine, a nationally award-winning monthly business news periodical serving northeast Wisconsin. He founded the Oshkosh-based media company in 2002 after earlier stints as business editor for daily newspapers in Oshkosh, Fond du Lac and Rhinelander.

Outside his day job, Fitzgerald has held leadership and oversight roles for more than two dozen business, educational, economic development, civic, cultural and human service organizations in communities across northeast Wisconsin. He served nine years on the board for Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce, was a co-founder of the young professional organizations in Oshkosh and Fond du Lac, helped successfully establish Greater Oshkosh Economic Development Corp. and chaired the Oshkosh Area United Way annual fund raising campaign, among several other roles. He also served as an elected official on the Oshkosh City Council.

Fitzgerald holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Carthage College in Kenosha.
