Kevin Kaufman, Director
Kevin Kaufman brings a depth of experience working with small and medium sized businesses to his position as Director at the Small Business Development Center at UW-Whitewater. From strategic planning to financial projections to buy/sell valuation to operational excellence, Kevin’s background as a commercial banker, national sales manager and eight years of consulting experience will help your company define and achieve its goals. Kevin holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from UW-Whitewater and an MBA from UW-La Crosse.
Kaia Fowler, Market Research Manager
As WISC market research manager, Kaia Fowler supports the center’s goal of delivering research that helps small businesses and product developers make informed market decisions to grow and succeed. Fowler brings expertise in market research, marketing strategies and communication to WISC clients. Fowler has owned and operated three small businesses, has more than 10 years in marketing roles and five years as an SBDC advisor in marketing, promotion and customer relations. As an SBDC consultant, Fowler provided marketing and business planning assistance to an entrepreneur who achieved funding to start a business that supports commercial trucking, creating six full time jobs. She also consulted with a construction company on marketing strategies and implementation—including design and content development for an improved website—which assisted the client with growing revenues and acquiring an $82,000 loan. Fowler’s current consulting focuses on assessing market feasibility for new product commercialization and identifying market opportunities for manufacturers and other B2B companies.
Sheila Vold, Finance and Human Resources Manager
As finance and human resources manager for the Center for Innovation and Business Development (CIBD), Sheila Vold coordinates office operations for the Wisconsin Innovation Service Center (WISC) and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) working with the Center Director to manage financial and personnel matters as well as a myriad of critical day-to-day activities. She serves as part of the business management team for CIBD acting as a point of contact for the center which acts as a gateway to the business outreach resources of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
